In our class our teacher is Mrs Cowley (was Miss Wright) with Mrs Taylor as our teaching assistant and midday assistant. 

We start our day at 8:45am and finish at 3:15pm, drop off and pick up is from the KS2 playground.

Our PE days are a Wednesday and a Thursday in the afternoon - your child can come in in their PE kit on those days.

Please ensure that your child has correct PE kit: white top, black bottoms and pumps/trainers. 

The children will have a morning break and we will phase out the afternoon break by Christmas, you will have to bring your own snacks as school doesn't provide them in KS2. Make sure they are healthy snacks such as rice cakes, fruit or vegetables. Make sure to send your child in with a water bottle so they can have a drink throughout the day. A friendly reminder that only water is allowed in your child's in class drink.

I will be sending reading books home - make sure you check your child's bag for books, make a comment and sign in their reading record and we will change the book in school the next day. Don't forget about our reading challenge! We would love to see you reach your bronze, silver and gold awards.

Homework will be sent out on a Friday  and brought back in by Wednesday. Each week your child will get their spellings, relevant times tables and some suggested activities to support their learning in class that week. If you feel like your child needs extra support in an area send myself a dojo message and I can send home some more supportive work. At the front of their homework books will be a log in code for Numbots, Timestable Rockstars and Purple Mash - these are all educational and will support them with their learning.

What are we Learning About in Summer Term?

Maths 

We will be learning all about fractions this term! Focussing on what a fraction is, comparing fractions and placing them on a number line. We will learn how to add and subtract fractions and how to find fractions of an amount. We will also be looking at perimeter and how to calculate it on different shapes. We will be looking at how to tell the time to the nearest minute and working out the duration of events.

Science 

We have 2 science topics this term! We will start by learning all about light. We will learn how we see objects, how light is reflected and how shadows are made. We will also be looking at plants. We will be researching the different ways that seeds are dispersed and how a plant gets pollinated, grows from a seed to a full plant! 

History 

We will be learning what life was like for people in Ancient Egypt. We will be focussing on their beliefs and the legacy they have left behind for us. We will be researching all about the pyramids, their gods and the mummification process.  

Geography 

We will be looking at Antarctica and if anyone lives there! We will be learning all about lines of longitude and latitude, using them to locate countries on a map, the physical geography of Antarctica and we will be focussing on Ernest Shackleton's expeditions there - looking at planning our own expedition around the school! 

Art & DT

We will be finishing our DT topic on making a healthy vegetarian sandwich! We will then start our 2D to 3D project, where we design a purse/wallet and then use our sewing skills to create our own following a design.

Music 

We are learning all about Calypso music this term! Learning how Calypso music was used to spread the news. We will be looking at Calypso Rose's song and using the beat to inspire us. We will also be improvising and composing our own sections of a song!

PSHE 

Our focus this term is all about healthy relationships. We will be learning all about how our body can give us warning signs if we don't feel safe, we will be learning about who keeps us safe, we will also touch on good/bad touch (such as tickling without someone wanting you to or someone hitting you) and that we have a right to say no and be listened to. We will also be starting our work on transition for our new start in year 4. 

RE 

We will be learning about different religions and what celebrations they have! We will look at Easter, Diwali, Ramadan and Eid - looking for similarities and differences between everyone's celebrations!

Spanish

In Spanish we will be improving our pronunciation by focussing on our Spanish phonics. We will also be learning how to say some musical instruments in Spanish.  

PE 

In PE we will be learning all about Athletics and Rounders. In Summer 2 we will be focussing on Tag Rugby and Basketball.
