Hello Year 1 and welcome to our class page!

Our Teachers

In our class we have 2 teachers! Miss Blyth Monday-Wednesday and Mrs Fowler Thursday and Friday!
Our teaching assistant and lunchtime supervisor is Mrs Cooper.

Start and Finish Times

Door opens at 8.45am

Door closes at 9:00am.

Home time is at 3.15pm

P.E.

Our P.E. days are Wednesday and Thursday. Your child can come into school wearing their PE kit on these days.

PE kit is a plain white t-shirt, black shorts/leggings/joggers and plain trainers/pumps. They must wear their school jumper/cardigan, NOT another type of hoody or jacket.

Snacks

Fruit is provided for free at break time, or you can bring in your own healthy snack from home. This could be some fruit, vegetable, rice cake etc. Every child should have their own water bottle for in class.

Reading Books and Homework

Please bring your child's reading book(s) in every day, even when it's not your day to change your book. You should try to read for 5/10 minutes at home every night. If you read at home x3 times a week with your child, please sign their diary so they can earn their stickers and rewards.   The record books have a phonics section in the middle and a word list too that you can use to check off. Please practice these regularly.

Homework and spellings are given out every Friday.
Homework is due in the following Wednesday and we have our spelling tests on Friday.

Please support your child at home with their reading, spellings and homework.
Any questions, please ask!

On Thursday we visit our school library where we can change our library book. Please remember to bring your library book into school every Thursday! This book is to read for pleasure so grown ups and older siblings are welcome to read these books out loud to your child.

Class Dojo

Please check Class Dojo regularly as we often send messages and updates. If you need us please also don’t hesitate to send us a message.  Each week we post a weekly update about our learning.

Spring 1 Learning:

In Writing, we will be using our class text 'lost and found' to inspire a diary entry from the point of view of the penguin.
In Maths, children will be exploring place value up to 20. Within this, we will be learning how numbers are made with tens and ones.
Our Science lessons will focus on British animals and humans. We’ll be learning about the different groups of animals, their names and what makes them different. We will also explore what the season 'Winter' is like - hopefully we'll even get some snow!
As part of our RE learning, we’ll be reflecting on the question 'what makes some places sacred?'
During PSHE, we’ll be learning about the importance of looking after ourselves and the reasons why.
In Music, we’ll be introduced to sound patterns (fairytales). At the end of the topic, we'll perform in music assembly!
Our History topic will take us back in time as we learn all about Queen Elizabeth II.
In Design and Technology, the children will be designing and making their own vehicles in our 'wheels and axels' topic.
In PE, we’ll be building our dance skills and enjoying a gymnastics to improve our coordination, balance, confidence, collaboration and creativity!

Things that you can do at home

Read every day! Practice phonics and tricky/high frequency words regularly to build up their sight vocabulary.  Read alien words too!
